Below is a priceless photo of Steve and our son, Josiah, riding together for the 1st time on the 450 Kodiak Quad! Josiah was helping Daddy move some of the irrigation sprinklers & hoses....AND going V-E-R-Y slowly. They both had a blast, to say the least!!!!

Milestones.....

Mr Josiah just keeps hitting his milestones! It's so neat to see him close to being "on schedule" with his development. There are a few areas that he's still a bit behind, but he's quickly catching up....quickly enough that we can't really classify it as "behind" anymore since he's within the normal range for the skills he has yet to develop! My 4# 11oz boy has sure made some progress...he's now 16# 10.5 oz at 8.5mos old. Where, oh where, did the time go?!?!?

FIRST TOOTH!!!! Our little man just got his first tooth on June 29th! He didn't seem to have much problems with getting this tooth in. I always check each day and he just happened to have a tooth that day!

ALMOST CRAWLING!!! He's as close to crawling without actually crawling that a baby can get, I think! He gets up on all fours, rocks back and forth, then lunges forward to do a chest plant into the carpet...then back up for another lunge! He also rolls and does the army/combat crawl in between. It's now time to start baby-proofing this house! With three big sisters, and all that "big girl" stuff around, he's got plenty to get into!

Josiah in his very own blow-up kiddie pool for the very 1st time (along with big sister, Miranda, for support). He absolutely LOVED the chance to splash and kick around! We filled it with warm tap water from the house faucets to help keep the little guy warm!

The picture to the left was taken the same day of Josiah in our larger pool (4' deep, 18' across). Of course, his big sisters were standing just outside the view of the camera!

Starting fresh with updates....

I've been so behind in updating my blogs that I've decided to just start fresh from the present with updates. I'll update previous happenings and events as time allows. I kept procrastinating posting updates because I was so far behind....just waiting for time to catch up, and finally decided that I'll just start fresh!

Josiah decided he finally likes his "Johnny Jump-Up". Our boy will jump in it until his legs and body are exhausted! All three of his older sisters loved thd "Johnny Jump-Up" when they were infants, so it is very pleasing to see him finally decide it was fun for him!

May 28th, 2007 (almost 7.5mos old): My blue eyed boy anxiously (?!??!?) awaiting his first attempt at solid foods. We discovered (thru research) that avocado typically make an excellent first food for baby ~ ~ however, our little man wasn't that impressed. Next time, I think I will prepare it finer, since I'm thinking that the texture might part of his dislike for it, considering it does have a fairly bland flavor.

June 5th, 2007 (a solid 7.5mos old): Here is a sweet picture of the boy tasting (baby) rice cereal for the first time. From the look on his face, I'm sure you can tell it wasn't very tasty to him, no matter how we prepared it. However, just a few days later on, he decided he truly did like it!

Here is Josiah treating me (mommy) to his beautiful smile before I left for my first day back to work. I work one day a week and Josiah stays home with daddy on that day. It seems they are both really enjoying their time together while I enjoy a day at a job I enjoy! It's so fun to see how much closer daddy and Josiah have become since I've started back to work....they are great buddies now!

The girls and I had a little fun wtih the boy while making dinner one night! He was actually having a good time just hanging out in the pot!

Josiah is just such a welcome, wonderful addition to our family! We are so lucky to have him in our lives and his smile brings such joy to each one of us!

Check out his hair in this photo from 11/11/06....it shows exactly why his big sisters affectionately referred to him as a little "hedge-hog"....when he had hair ~ it's getting a bit sparse these days, but is being replaced by very light blonde hair!

This photo is from 11/17/06 when he was hooked up to a 24hr Holter monitor test to check his heart rhythm as well as the apnea monitor that he wore until after the 1st of the year.....I think the wires and devices weighed more than he did at that point!

He's still quite "scrawny" at this point, but he's still not due to be born in these photos!

This is Josiah's 1st Halloween....he dressed up as a newborn baby! =) Josiah & his mommy stayed home while Daddy took the girls out trick-or-treating.

It was too cold and Josiah was too young to go out trick-or-treating....so he & mommy stayed home together, all snuggled up....enjoying our time together.

This was taken the day I was discharged from the hospital. Josiah was receiving his tube-feeding at the time, but you can't see the feeding tube or the bottle of breastmilk/formula mix behind me that was in the process of going into his NG tube via gravity.

"Kangaroo Care"

Josiah & Mommy doing "Kangaroo Care" (aka skin-to-skin contact). The NICU encourages this type of care as it helps the little preemies to regulate their body temperature and encourages bonding, etc. Josiah still enjoys this "Kangaroo Care" and is such a little "snuggle bug"! This photo was taken during the first time I got to hold Josiah...he was just over 14 hours old ~~ those 14 hours seemed like ETERNITY!

Josiah with his 3 older sisters at 30 minutes old! Josiah was in the resuscitation room while he was being stabilized prior to being moved to the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit)/DNCC (Doernbecher Neonatal Care Center) area. Look at the pride on those girls' faces! He's a lucky little boy!

We are proud to announce the arrival of our new son: Josiah James LeRoy Roberts! Josiah arrived via c-section on Monday, October 16th @ 10:26pm. Little Josiah was born 6 weeks early at Oregon Health & Sciences University (OHSU). He weighed 4# 11.5oz and was 17-3/4" long.

Our little guy's due date wasn't until November 27th, but needed to be delivered via an urgent c-section due to a fetal/maternal hemorrhage caused by a partial placental abruption (meaning the placenta was detaching from the uterus and Josiah's blood cells were entering his momma's blood stream). The doctors said that if he wasn't delivered that night, he could either likely bleed so much that he needed blood transfusions or could be stillborn.

Josiah spent 14 days in the DNCC (Doernbecher Neonatal Care Center)/NICU and was discharged on Sunday, 10/29. At his lowest weight, he was 4# 4oz, but was up to 4# 13-oz at his doctor's appointment on Tuesday, 10/31. Josiah is on an apnea monitor 24hrs a day. This monitors his respirations as well as his heart rate. The heart rate is what the doctors are watching the closest since Josiah's initial EKG indicated he might have the same heart condition Mariah has. We do get several valid alarms going off each day (with the monitor showing a low heart rate), but many of the alarms are due to the electrodes not sticking to his skin properly. One set of electrodes should last @ 2 days and we have to change them at least 2x/day! This monitor really gives us peace of mind, especially in the night.
